Money Issues

Money is a big factor that influences many decisions in the health care industry. Some may rely on it and others may provide for it. Of course no good comes out of decisions made based on money, such as the proposal made by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

CMS had proposed to limit the treatment options for seniors. This includes drugs and therapies needed for their treatments. What ever their real intentions were for suddenly proposing this idea, society had a negative view on it. Whether or not CMS was trying to provide more efficient care or reduce costs, people knew it would do neither and the proposal was shut down. As the author of the article says, “the cost of dealing with poorer health outcomes would soon more than offset any such savings.”

This is only one example of how health care is influenced by money. Although the sole influence is not just money, there are, surprisingly, many debates in whether patient care or money comes first.
